Kinds of Reading Text (Macam – Macam Reading Text)

Standard

1. Narrative Text

a) Generic Structure:

  • Orientation = Introducing character, place, and time.
  • Complication = Problem.
  • Resolution = Solution of the problem.

b) Social Function:

  • To entertain the readers with an interesting story.
  • To teach a certain moral lessons to the readers.

c) Tenses:

  • Simple Past Tense

 

2. Recount Text

a) Generic Structure:

  • Orientation = Introducing character, place, and time.
  • Events = Describing series of event that happened in the past.
  • Re-orientation = Stating Personal Comment of the writer to the story.

b) Social Function:

  • To tell the readers about someone’s story or experience.

c) Tenses:

  • Simple Past Tense.

 

3. Descriptive Text

a) Generic Structure:

  • Identification = Introduces or identifies the character or everything.
  • Description: A part of the paragraph which describes something.

b) Social Function:

  •  To describe about something.

c) Tenses:

  • Simple Present Tense.

 

4. Report Text

a) Generic Structure:

  • General Clasification
  • Description

b) Social Function:

  • To inform or report the readers about something.

c) Tenses:

  • Simple Present Tense.

 

5. News Item

a) Generic Structure:

  • Newsworthy Event
  • Background Event
  • Source

b) Social Function:

  • To inform the readers about events of the day which are considered newsworthy or important.

c) Tenses:

  • Simple Present Tense.
  • Simple Past Tense.
